The H2O BoatCare System consists of an electronics box and a transducer. This transducer is placed in the water at the berth of your ship.

Together they create pulses with a high frequency. These pulses have a strong influence on the microscopic vacuum bubbles which are caused by the vibrations. These vacuum bubbles implode (cavitation at a microscopic level) and the forces that are released destroy the algae and the seeds of barnacles. The powerful vibrations it sends destroys the organisms before they stick to your hull, leaving you with an immaculately clean and smooth sailing boat

The Technique Behind The H2O BoatCare System

The H2OBoatCare is developed from an old idea, controlling algae by using vibrations. The old technique was based on the generation of ultrasonic sound waves generated by a small speaker, packed in a stainless steel casing. The aim was causing so called sonication, the vibrations of the cell of the algae makes it tear and die. The effect was minimal.

Our new technique is based on generating cavitation; the small vacuum bubbles, created by The H2O BoatCare System, implode.

The difference between the ultrasonic systems as we know them and the H2OBoatCare is as following: The most Ultrasonic systems work with 40Khz and have a volume of 50 dB. In the transducer is a traditional system to transform electric energy into mechanic energy. The problem is and was with these systems that it isn’t possible to create cavitation on a large scale. It’s just not strong enough. There had to be invented a new kind of technique.

H2OBoatCare uses 42Khz and has a volume of 100 dB. And as you know the scale of decibel is logarithmic. So the difference in power between the two systems is enormous. The new technique produces thousands of vibrations every second with high energy produced by a new technique in the transducer to transform the electric energy into the mechanic energy. So the pulses are much stronger than in the traditional systems. The sound wave reaches much farther and has much more energy. Result is cavitation on a large scale; up to 40 meters in salt water and 50/55 meters in fresh water. The cavitation bubbles are of course microscopically small and have a maximum size of 1/2 mm.

The H2OBoatCare consists of an electronic controlling device and a transducer. This transducer provides intermittent vibrations. Through these vibrations, or pulses, the vacuum bubbles are modified in such way that they eventually implode, which is called cavitation. The pressure in the vacuum bubbles is low and the surrounding water presses the bubble together. The surrounding water which is involved in the implosion gives off tiny water jets under high pressure. Through these water jets, the cells of algae in the surrounding area are being destroyed and the larvae of barnacles are being dispelled. You could see it as an eco-friendly high pressure cleaning device.

The technique of generating cavitation is in fact at least 100 times(!) more effective than the generation of sonication.

The technique of H2O BoatCare was developed by Dutch scientists and technicians. It is an example of Dutch innovation. The new technology - unique in the world - works with ceramic discs, with are kept under tension with a certain pressure.

Through these ceramic discs an electrical pulse is sent which causes a vibration and has cavitation as the result. It is a natural opponent of algae and a remover of the larvae of barnacles.
